Who are you?

For we are God’s masterpiece created in Christ Jesus to do good works which he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10)

Knowing who we are in Christ gives us freedom and confidence to have the correct view of ourselves. It helps us see ourselves just as God sees us.  We don’t believe the lies of the enemy when he whispers “you are not worth it” and we don’t allow ourselves to be defined by our circumstances.
Ephesians 1:3-14 describes the basis of our identity. As believers who have put our faith in Christ and accepted Him as Lord and Savior, we are:
  •  Blessed with every spiritual blessings in the heavenly realms.
  • Chosen before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless.

Jesus made a special trip to seek out the Samaritan woman in John 4. She was an outcast and a rejected woman who did not know her identity. She was defined by her circumstances. She was looking for love and acceptance in the world. She had married five times and was presently living with a man to whom she was not married. Jesus chose this woman as his own daughter. He reached out to her.  He chose you and me regardless of our circumstances. We are:
  • Adopted and dearly loved
  • Redeemed and forgiven according to the riches of God’s grace
  • Lavished with all wisdom and understanding
  • Receive the revelation and mystery of God’s will
  • Eternal life
  • Co-heirs with Christ
  • Lavished with His love
God’s love for his daughters is measureless. Ephesians 3:18 states that no one can grasp the length, the width, the height and the depth of Christ’s love for His daughters.
  • Marked and sealed by the Holy Spirit which declares us authentic that we belong to Christ.
  • The Holy Spirit gives us authority
  • We are fearfully and wonderfully made. God took great care to create us and every detail of our lives is important to him.
The ultimate goal of knowing and accepting our identity in Christ is to bring praise and glory to God. This means we stay connected to God through prayer, reading God’s Word, living a life of integrity and allowing our walk to encourage others by pointing them to Christ. It means we have confidence in the Lord. We know who we are in Him. When we live according to this knowledge, we will refuse to be shaken by life’s circumstances and challenges.
Though this message is for all believers, it is especially true for sisters in difficult circumstances. Are you living in your identity? Or are you allowing your circumstances to define you?
Remember, you are a Princess, Daughter of the most High God, Loved, Cherished, Redeemed, Forgiven, Accepted, Saved, Chosen and Clothed in His Righteousness.  When next the enemy comes to harass you, remind him of whom you are in Christ. You my sister are a Masterpiece!
May the words of B. B. McKinney be an encouragement as you embrace your identity in Christ.
Have faith in God when your pathway is lonely,
He sees and knows all the way you have trod
Never alone are the least of his children,
Have faith in God, have faith in God.

Have faith in God, He’s on his throne;
Have faith in God he watches over his own,
He cannot fail, he must prevail,
Have faith in God, have faith in God.
